When it came to Randy Moss, Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher wasn’t providing many hints about the organization’s intentions early on Wednesday. But quarterback Kerry Collins said if the Titans wanted to sign Moss, he was all for it. “I don’t discuss personnel moves,” Fisher said. “Never have. We’ve had some discussions like every else has.” Fisher said several Titans players told him they would like to play with Moss, who the Vikings acquired in a trade in early October before waiving him four weeks later. After the Titans claimed Moss off of waivers by the 4 p.m. ET deadline,Milwaukee Bucks, Fisher seemed to be in agreement. “He is going to speak his mind and might run some people the wrong way,” Collins said. “He speaks the truth a lot of times and that is hard for some people to hear. But I know what kind of teammate he was for me and what kind of player he was so I wouldn’t have a problem with him being here.” Moss was placed on waivers by Minnesota Tuesday,so don’ Cleveland Browns Jerseys, and every NFL team had a chance to claim him by 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. “He was respectful,Women's nfl jerseys, he was a team guy. I think a lot of stuff you see and hear gets overblown. The guy speaks his mind, is very truthful with what he says and that doesn’t always play well. But as far as what kind of guy and teammate he is … he was a great teammate and I never had a problem with him.” The claiming team with the worst record was to be rewarded Moss, and as Wyatt noted, the Titans at 5–3 are 23rd in the order. “The year I spent with Randy, I never had a problem with the guy,St. Louis Rams Jerseys,” Collins, who played with Moss in Oakland in 2005, told Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean Wednesday. Fitzpatrick took the blame. As “horrible” as linebacker Paul Posluszny acknowledged he felt about the team’s 0-7 record on Monday, he regards back-to-back OT losses as progress in a season in which very little has gone right for Buffalo. Any sign of hope will do for the Bills, who are attempting to remain upbeat despite getting off to their worst start in 26 years. Gailey’s big concern is how the string of losses have the potential of affecting his team. Coach Chan Gailey credited his players for owning up to their mistakes, but emphasized that everyone should feel responsible for the loss – himself included. The Bills defense showed improvement in allowing a season-low 13 points – this after giving up 34 or more points in each of its previous five games. Buffalo still couldn’t stop the run, allowing a season-worst 274 yards rushing to mark the fourth time Buffalo’s given up 200 or more yards this year. “It’s inexcusable,ll play” Anaheim Angels,” he said. “For me, it hurts more because I had the opportunities, I had the chances, and I feel I let the guys down.” Their latest oh-so-close chance at victory came in a 13-10 overtime loss at Kansas City on Sunday in a game decided by Ryan Succop’s a 35-yard field goal as time expired. And it came a week after a 37-34 overtime loss at Baltimore, making Buffalo only the 12th NFL team to lose in OT on consecutive weekends. “It’s horrible to think we’re the only winless team in the NFL. No one wants to be able to say that you’re part of that. But that’s the reality,” Posluszny said. “But each week, man, we’re getting a step closer. You can’t get any closer than where we’re at.” Facing first-and-10 at the Chiefs 41 with 32 seconds left in regulation, Fitzpatrick threw an interception when his intended pass to Lee Evans over the middle squirted out of his hands. Then, in overtime, he overthrew a wide-open C.J. Spiller in the end zone. “When I closed my eyes last night, I saw the ball coming at me. When I woke up this morning,Buffalo Bills jerseys, I saw Cassel dropping back and throwing at me again,Tampa Bay Buccaneers jerseys,” Wilson said, referring to Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel. “No way is yesterday’s game Ryan Fitzpatrick’s fault.” ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – First, the Buffalo Bills couldn’t win in regulation. Now, they’re losing in overtime. Kicker Rian Lindell had a 53-yard field-goal attempt in overtime clank off the right upright – this after he made one from the same distance only to have it nullified when the Chiefs called a timeout just before the snap. So far, everything’s been bouncing against Buffalo,NFL Hats Jerseys, which was particularly evident in how the team squandered three opportunities to win the game in the final 16 minutes. Dreadful as that might sound, there’s renewed hope among the Bills that a turnaround might just be around the corner – and who knows, potentially on Sunday, when they play “host” to Chicago (4-3) in a game at Toronto. “It reveals character,” Gailey said. “I think we have a lot of guys with character, and I think they will continue to work and fight.” In a sign of unity, Fitzpatrick’s teammates rallied to his defense, saying there was plenty of blame to go around. “That’s kind of what we keep telling each other,” quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. “We need to get over the hump, get one win, and then we think things will start rolling and bouncing in our direction.” “You have a hard time dealing with his. If you say it’s easy, you’re lying,” Gailey said. “There’s no speech to give. There’s nothing I can do to go in there and smooth-talk them. You can’t fool them.” They included safety George Wilson, who was still kicking himself for having a sure interception fall through his hands in the opening quarter. And yet, Gailey maintains faith in his players, who continue to battle on the field. Then, there was Fitzpatrick, who had a bedeviling outing. Despite capping a 15-play, 83-yard scoring drive by hitting Stevie Johnson for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 left to tie the game at 10, Fitzpatrick inexplicably unraveled in the clutch. ,New Orleans HornetsBarber entered Sunday a perfect nine-of-nine in third- and fourth-and-1 rushing attempts on the season but he was 0-for-2 against the Jaguars. Jacksonville stopped Barber on back-to-back plays by linebackers Daryl Smith and Kirk Morrison and on the fourth-down play Barber collided with quarterback Jon Kitna. After eight weeks, isn’t this what the running game is? “We’ve been as good at those situations as anybody be it short yardage or goal-line situations, canada team Olympic,Texas Rangers,” Garrett said. “We had an opportunity inside the 1-yard line twice, so we just wanted to get a chance to knock them off the football and get in.” “We’ve just got to keep finding a way,Cleveland Browns Jerseys,” Garrett said. “Run it from different personnel groups, find ways each week to come off the football to create some yardage. It helps the offensive line, the passing game and our football team.” “We’ve just got to continue to keep banging away with it,” assistant head coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s not come clean for us early in any game. We tried to be persistent with it but as the game went on we got behind and it was harder to do.” Don’t be bothered by the details. They had 22 carries vs. Jacksonville and 13 vs. the Giants, but it’s a stretch to find anything positive about a running game that has been fruitless for much of the year. Felix Jones had 22 yards on eight carries. Marion Barber had 16 yards on nine carries and Jon Kitna had 12 yards on five carries. It is the third time this season the Cowboys did not rush for more than 50 yards in a game. They had 36 yards on 20 carries vs. Chicago in the home opener. If you’re looking for a bright spot from the Cowboys’ running game it’s this: they gained more yards Sunday (50) on the ground than they did last week vs. the New York Giants (41). s mother is Korean. Lunch was served to the students after the quick workout, featuring new,Super Bowl jerseys, healthier menu items. Johnston and James sat side-by-side in front of trays with a quarter of a burger, a fish stick and hummus with pita bread. And of course,Kansas City Royals, there was milk. “I’ll make sure all my guys get some cheese, some milk and yogurt,” he promised a group of schoolchildren who helped kick off a nutrition and exercise program this morning at a North Dallas school. And it doesn’t matter how kids get their exercise,Washington Redskins Jerseys, according to the linebacker. While James didn’t devour the meal in front of him, he felt it was good for the kids. Dairy Max teamed up with the Dallas school district and the Cowboys this year to rename the “Play 60″ program “Fuel Up to Play 60.” James says the fueling up part is necessary. “I usually eat chicken strips, hamburgers and French fries,” Taylor Ollivierre said of the former cafeteria food. “I like this more.” Dallas linebacker Bradie James may have the solution to the Cowboys’ slow start this season: more calcium. After Johnston slid his chocolate milk across the table in a trade with a student, everyone was encouraged to take a big drink of milk and to leave on the milk-stache. As part of the “Fuel Up to Play 60″ program, James and former Cowboys running back Daryl Johnston encouraged healthy eating habits and daily exercise at G.B. Dealey Montessori Vanguard and International Academy. For Johnston, the program is especially timely. “It’s actually all right,” he said. “It’s better than what I grew up with in school.” “Run up and down the hallways,” he said, drawing laughter from students and a slight smile from Principal Johanna Bortnem. “If you get in trouble, say, ‘Hey! Sanchez and the Jets will take on the Broncos (2-3) in Denver on Sunday. Sanchez, who has eight touchdown passes, is the league’s only quarterback with at least 100 attempts without an interception. The only other player who has had significant playing time and not been intercepted is Philadelphia’s Michael Vick, who has thrown just 96 passes. A few close calls, and still no interceptions through five games. “It’s been a point of emphasis all offseason and I’m really glad that things have gone well so far,” said Sanchez, who set a career high with 44 attempts Monday night. “A lot of it is the decision making. A lot of it is the accuracy and I lost a little accuracy last week. It’s something that I’m constantly working at and hopefully this week is not the week to start.” Sanchez often sends his receivers text messages or e-mails with ideas on how to approach the next opponent or notes to keep them motivated. He wants to keep the mistakes to a minimum and keep getting better, especially with red-zone efficiency after going 0 for 4 against the Vikings. This season, Edwards said,New NBA Hats, Sanchez is making the correct reads down the field. And, this season, they all have – so far. “We’ve been very fortunate, but they’re a part of the game and they’re going to happen,” Brunell said. “It doesn’t mean it’s going to be a bad decision. Sometimes, there’s tipped balls and things happen,New Orleans Saints Jerseys, but if he continues to play like this, he’ll get to the end of the season and there will be very few.” “He’s grown up,” Broncos linebacker Mario Haggan said. “He was a rookie last year and made some rookie mistakes. Now, he’s a more mature quarterback. He understands the offense,NHL Jerseys, he’s reading the defense better and he’s got some targets he trusts now.” The second-year quarterback has had a huge turnaround after being intercepted 20 times as a rookie, and his ball security is a major reason the Jets are among the NFL’s best teams with a 4-1 record. “It’s one of those things that you can’t let up and I feel like when I was late on a couple last week, I lucked out,” Sanchez said. “We joke about it in the quarterbacks room: ‘You must be living right to luck out like that’.” “If we just convert a couple of those red-zone opportunities,PASS ( Columbus Blue Jackets, we can be explosive,” Sanchez said. “That’s our goal. We’ve just got to improve a little bit each week and we’ll be ready to play.” “Even when he’s getting some tipped balls, the reason they’re not getting intercepted is because they’re going where they’re supposed to go,” Edwards said. “So, he’s getting (defenders) who are out of place. That’s why they’re not getting the interceptions.” “Part of it is just knowing your reads,” Edwards said. “A lot of times last year, Mark was trying to find himself and trying to force some things. A lot of times when you force things into the wrong situation, that’s when you get those interceptions, those fumbles, because you’re not necessarily going where you’re supposed to go.” That means Sanchez will have made major progress in an area that was a huge concern coming into a season in which the Jets are thinking Super Bowl. There have been a handful of other near-misses this season, including a pass that Braylon Edwards tipped away from a Vikings defender and was called for offensive pass interference. Two interceptions have also been overturned. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Mark Sanchez thought his streak was over. The New York Jets quarterback zipped a pass through the wet Meadowlands air Monday night and – whew! – Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield couldn’t quite get his hands around it. “I think it’s definitely his development, the way he studied, the time he put in in the offseason,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “It’s starting to pay dividends right now for us. But luck, if that’s thrown in there, that’s fine.” “Mark would agree with this, that we’ve been fortunate, especially this last game,” said backup quarterback Mark Brunell, in his 18th NFL season. “There were a couple of tips and we were like, ‘Oh, that was a close one!’ Sometimes those go your way and sometimes they don’t.” According to the NFL, Sanchez joined former Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde (2001) as the only players since the merger in 1970 to start the first five games without an interception after throwing 20 or more the previous season. The Colts running game was so good, it set up a long fade-away touchdown to Dallas Clark. Peyton Manning would make a great play-action fake to heave it to No. 44. After that, he was in the end zone. “I don’t know. It’s tough,” Archie Manning said of which son’s side he would choose to be on, although that is a very dumb question to ask by the press in my opinion. Manning would go 20-of-26 for 255 yards along with three touchdowns. He would end the game with a 145.5 rating. The other Manning, Eli, would go 13-of-24 for 161 yards along with two touchdowns and one interception. This would go along for a 85.6 rating. By halftime,Detroit Lions Jerseys, his rating would be in the range of the 20’s at the best. He stepped up and showed he wasn’t a quitter in the second half, and I like that. Great game Indy. Mario Manningham played well, catching four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Hakeem Nicks, who was questionable to play this game, had two catches for 38 yards along with a touchdown. Reggie Wayne would have 96 yards on seven catches with a touchdown for the Colts. Clark would have five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. After a struggling, lopsided, and unprepared loss to the Houston Texans last week, the Colts returned to their AFC-Champions form today and showed that their not going down. It was a struggling game, however, for the Giants after knocking off the Carolina Panther last week,New England Patriots Jerseys, looking all tough and strong as they look to intimidate No. 18. The game wasn’t even a contest. By halftime, it was already 24-0 and Eli Manning didn’t even hit 25 yards passing. After a touchdown by the Giants, the Colts would get them on their next possession, where Robert Mathis caused a fumble and Fili Moala recovered it for six points the other to gain a 31-7 lead. “We couldn’t get into a rhythm,” he said. “The whole first half, when you can’t get first downs, it’s hard as an offense to get into all your plays and your calls, and a lot of three-and-outs. They outplayed us, and that’s what it came down to.” The Indianapolis Colts rocked, destroying the New York Giants in a 38-14 rout victory. Indianapolis, with their strong combination of running the ball and passing to create an unstoppable offensive attack, made the Giants look like small, terrified midgets as Peyton Manning repeats his victory as the “Manning Bowl” winner. Last time these two faced was in 2006,as the score was a 26-21 win. Now the victory is a 19-point difference. The Colts played excellent defense and were riding smoothly on all aspects of the game. Next week, they face the Denver Broncos. I expect another great game like this. I am very excited now that the Colts finally got back into running the ball well. I expect 900 rushing yards at the least for Joseph Addai currently. From what I saw from him and Brown, they can both be a very feared rushing attack for the Colts. I look to see a lot of what they did last night. Ahmad Bradshaw, who is now the starting running back for New York this year, ran for 89 yards on 17 carries. Danny Ware would rush for 15 yards on two carries. What I was really proud of was the Colts’ running game. Joseph Addai would rush for 92 yards on 20 carries to bring a 4.6 yards-per-carry average. Addai couldn’t be stopped,Houston Rockets, as he was showing his great ball-carrier vision and toughness. Meanwhile, Donald Brown showed his blazing speed, going ahead for 69 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown. Peyton Manning and the Colts’ passing attack will be good as usual. I really hope Indy can play that kind of defense again, because that was truly amazing. One thing is that they need to tweak up that rush defense. However,Houston Colt, Clint Session and Bob Sanders hope to return for next week, so it could help out a lot. “I told him I loved him,” Peyton said of their ten-minute conversation after the game. “I think they will be fine. They play the Titans next week and we’ll being pulling hard for them to help us in the AFC South. We will do our best to help them when we play all these NFC East teams. I am proud of him and I love him.” Though Manning really took it to Eli and the Giants, it all goes down that it is just a game. Manning probably cares more for his brother than this victory. Harrison’s teammates didn’t take his threat to retire seriously, saying he enjoys playing too much to quit during the second season of a $51.2 million contract. Harrison agreed with that in a statement issued by the team. And the Steelers will play … uhh,Toronto Maple Leafs, is it Miami? With so much talk about Harrison, Steelers players are being asked relatively few questions about the Dolphins (3-2). Harrison, arguing the restrictions won’t allow him to play football as he’s always played it, met with coach Mike Tomlin on Wednesday to discuss the changes. Tomlin decided to give Harrison a cooling-off day and sent him home from practice. “I have come to the decision that I cannot and will not let the league office stop me from playing the game that I love,” Harrison said. Related links Browns center: Harrison plays dirty Browns receivers still out New video for players stresses discipline Harrison was fined $75,Miami Dolphins Jerseys,0000 on Tuesday for a helmet hit on Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, making him one of three NFL players fined at least $50,000 for flagrant hits last weekend. On Wednesday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell followed up the fines by releasing a memo emphasizing significant penalties will be imposed upon players who strike an opponent in the head or neck in violation of existing rules. “If you watch the game film, he was doing that to everyone on every play. People would be on the ground and he would try to spear them,” Mack said. “There’s a play on film where (running back) Peyton Hillis is tackled and he comes up and spears him. It’s like you’re being cheap, you’re being dirty.” “When you go out there on Sunday, all you think about is the football game,” Smith said. “You don’t think about anything else.” Steelers nose tackle Chris Hoke insisted the 2008 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is not a dirty player who lives off cheap hits. In his statement, Harrison said player safety must be emphasized, but he argued again his hit on Massaquoi was permissible under NFL rules. Tomlin also said the hit was legal. Too bad for the Patriots’ Tom Brady, who joked life for NFL quarterbacks would be easier if Harrison retired. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker resumed practicing Thursday with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one day after threatening to retire because of the NFL’s stricter enforcement of dangerous hits. PITTSBURGH — That retirement talk by James Harrison didn’t last nearly long enough for some NFL quarterbacks. Steelers safety Ryan Clark also found some levity in the situation. Asked about the notoriously intense Harrison’s mood upon returning to the team, Clark said Harrison isn’t “a fluffy person” even when he’s in a good mood. Dirty, he said, the NFL and the Eagles investigate. 09 ALL STAR, and dangerous. While Harrison’s one-day absence was the predominant topic in the Steelers locker room, defensive end Aaron Smith said it wasn’t a distraction. Many veteran Steelers players routinely take days off from practice during the season; the only difference was Harrison didn’t watch from the sideline or attend meetings. “I feel the real reason for the fine was the statement I made after the game wherein I said that I try to hurt people, not injure them,” Harrison said in the statement. “In the same sentence, I attempted to clarify my meaning. But I understand that my comments leave a lot open to interpretation. The statement was not well-thought out and I did not adequately convey my meaning. I apologize for making that statement and I want it to be known that I have never and would never intentionally try to injure any player.” Browns center Alex Mack suggested Harrison should be worried about his own health. Mack said Harrison’s concussion-causing hits Sunday on Browns wide receivers Massaquoi and Joshua Cribbs weren’t isolated. “He’s fine,” Clark said. “Obviously it’s a tough situation and he was able to handle it the way he needed to. We’re glad to have him back.” Smith also said Harrison’s situation won’t be a distraction on Sunday. “Is that who we’re playing?” Smith said, only kidding. “That’s not James, that’s a misunderstanding,” Hoke said. “He goes out and plays hard. There’s not a dirty ounce in his body. … It’s all about hard work for him. He’s one of the first guys in here in the morning and one of the last to leave. He’s a class act. It’s good to see him back because he’s a humongous part of our team.” “You’re ruining your own brain and you’re damaging other people,NHL Jerseys,” Mack said. “It’s your brain. You need that a lot.” Harrison did not talk to reporters before or after practice. The team said the statement would be his only comments. “I will continue to play the game with the same passion, intensity and focus with which I have always played and let the chips fall where they may,” Harrison said. “I have never give up, quit or walked away from anything in my life and I am not about to start now.” Drafted 14th overall in 2009 Houston Texans Jersey

“The one thing you want is, you want him on the field,” coach Sean Payton said Wednesday. “He’s playing at a level where we need to make sure, whether it’s in the nickel or it’s in the base, that he’s out there.” Jenkins has become one of the most valuable players on a defense that, through all of its injuries, ranks third in the NFL in yards allowed and also third against the pass. Jenkins is second on the team with 42 tackles and has a team-leading eight passes defended. He also had a sack in Week 4 that helped take Carolina out of range for a potential game-winning field goal. “This year I have a better feel for the game. I understand it a little more. I understand the defense a lot better, so I think that helps me move to different positions,” Jenkins said. “But at the same time, I was a little uncomfortable just because everything you look at is different. The way you see the game is different from a corner and being at safety, so I just had to get my eyes right.” Drafted 14th overall in 2009, Jenkins started his NFL career at cornerback, the position in which he thrived at Ohio State. As a rookie, he was a special teams regular who had to earn whatever defensive snaps he could get, usually as the fifth or sixth defensive back in obvious passing situations. With Porter and Greer close to returning, Jenkins won’t have to play cornerback as much. Yet, with Sharper also back at free safety, Jenkins is likely to keep rotating between safety and nickel back as matchups warrant. Apparently, Jenkins’ eyes were right where they needed to be against the Steelers, particularly on a critical fourth-down pass he broke up in the third quarter when Pittsburgh,Houston Texans Jerseys, down only 6-3, had driven into Saints territory. “If there’s one guy on the team they’ll put in multiple positions, it’s probably me,” Jenkins said. “I’m used to moving around.” However, in Week 7, the same week Sharper returned to practice, New Orleans’ secondary was so banged up that coaches asked Jenkins to start playing more at nickel and cornerback again. Starting cornerbacks Tracy Porter (left knee) and Jabari Greer (left shoulder) were out. Meanwhile, nickel back Randall Gay had been placed on injured reserve after symptoms from an early season concussion returned. METAIRIE, La. (AP) – Malcolm Jenkins need not worry about his job security any time soon. The major difference, Jenkins said,Quebec Nordiques, is that a safety makes the defensive calls and has to know when to give help to cornerbacks. Cornerbacks, meanwhile, rely on the safety for the play calls, often have their backs to the play and must know when safety help is coming. “He’s really played well for us at the corner position the last couple weeks,” Saints strong safety Roman Harper said. “As everybody’s gone down, he’s had to step up,Seattle Pilots, got his hands on the ball a couple times … and really made a couple big plays.” During the offseason, the Saints decided to turn Jenkins into a free safety, believing that at 6-feet, 204 pounds, he was well suited for it. The change also gave Jenkins a chance to compete for a starting job on opening day because last year’s starter, Darren Sharper, had offseason knee surgery and went into the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list. “People don’t understand how tough it is to start off the year at safety and then move to cornerback,” said Sharper,Randy Moss at Vikings Press Conference ‘Very Fortunate to Be Back Home’, who briefly made a similar switch early in his career. “It’s two different things you’re looking at. Only guys who understand the game and guys that are athletic and versatile as he is are able to make those switches.” Injuries have forced the Saints to play the second-year defensive back at multiple spots – from safety to cornerback to nickel back – and Jenkins has won his coaches’ confidence at every turn. Then early in Sunday night’s victory over Pittsburgh, rookie cornerback Patrick Robinson hurt his ankle, meaning Jenkins would be at cornerback on every down. Notes: Reggie Bush did not practice, but Payton said the running back is close to returning from his broken right leg and will play in Carolina if he’s ready, rather than being rested until after the Week 10 bye. … WR Marques Colston was limited in practice because of a right hand injury. … K Garrett Hartley sat out with a right ankle injury, but is expected to be ready to kick by Sunday, Payton said. The coach said punter Thomas Morstead could handle kickoffs as he has in the past and Hartley might handle only field goals. Donovan McNabb NFL Hats Jerseys

“I felt with the time and no timeouts, he was the best chance to win in that scenario,” Shanahan explained. “Just knowing the terminology of what we’ve done, how we run it.” Mike & Mike in the Morning Former NFL QB Kurt Warner says if a coach pulled him out of the game the way Redskins coach Mike Shanahan pulled QB Donovan McNabb, he would feel like the coach had zero faith in him. He said it raises the question: “After the season, will he be here or not?” Shanahan put Grossman into the game with 1:50 left and Washington trailing by six points. The backup quarterback fumbled on his first play and Ndamukong Suh returned it to seal the Detroit Lions’ 37-25 victory. Countdown Daily Recap: Redskins-LionsCountdown Daily Recap: Redskins-LionsJon Anik and Cris Carter recap the Lions’ win over the Redskins and the decision to use Rex Grossman DETROIT — With the game on the line Sunday, Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan trusted backup Rex Grossman more than starter Donovan McNabb. “You just have to learn from it and move on,” McNabb said. “I did it then, and I’ll do it now.” “He makes the decisions, I just continue to go with it and just cheer for my team,” he said. “We had opportunities we just didn’t take advantage.” The six-time Pro Bowl quarterback has his lowest rating since 1999 when Philadelphia drafted him No. 2 overall and he started six games. “My arm got hit, so I wasn’t able to follow through with the throw,” said McNabb, who was 17 of 30 for 210 yards with a TD and an interception. McNabb was benched for just the second time in his career. The other time was two years ago against Baltimore, when he was playing for Philadelphia. Washington had a 25-20 lead with 4:40 left when Alphonso Smith stepped in front of McNabb’s pass at the Redskins 41 to set up the go-ahead TD. The Redskins (4-4), who have a bye this week, will have a lot of time to work on correcting their mistakes and likely answer McNabb-related questions. McNabb refused to publicly question the eyebrow-raising choice. Kukura cited 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh and Zolak in Boston report via their Twitter page as saying,Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys, “Sources tell us that Patriots Safety Patrick Chung will miss 1-2 weeks after getting injured Sunday vs Chargers.” Since the Patriots already have had their bye, that equates to 1-2 games for Chung and before Sunday’s game he had taken the most snaps on defense of any Patriots player. While the New England Patriots managed to escape San Diego with a narrow 23-20 victory to improve to 5-1 and keep pace with the first-place New York Jets in the AFC East, they may have lost emerging star safety Patrick Chung for an undetermined amount of time. Chung’s solid play had given the defensive backs some comfort,2009 Pro Bowl jerseys,Tennessee Titans Jerseys, especially with former Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss scheduled to return to Gillette Stadium as a Minnesota Viking this Sunday on Halloween. New England’s secondary suffered a blow at the end of training camp when veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden went on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, leaving youngsters Devin McCourty and Darius Butler back there to contend with the likes of Brandon Marshall, Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes. Chung, the hero of New England’s 41-14 win at Miami three weeks ago when he blocked a punt,Memphis Grizzlies, a field goal and returned an interception for a touchdown, injured his knee in the second quarter of Sunday’s game and did not return. According to Joe Kukurka of NBCConnecticut.com, Chung could miss 1-2 weeks. ” Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys

“It’s like I never left,” he said. “It feels like it’s my family.” So far, so good. Now, New England has the anti-Moss. Branch’s nine catches in his first game back were as many as Moss had in the first four weeks combined. But just a year after being named Super Bowl MVP, Branch embarked on contract holdout that prompted the Patriots to fine him and eventually trade him to the Seahawks for a first-round draft choice. Seattle signed him to a six-year, $39 million contract,t saying which one – NFL 60 Sizes Jerseys, but with injuries and Matt Hasselbeck he never came close to the 78-catch, 998-yard career highs he reached with Brady in New England. He caught the Patriots’ interest again when they decided to part ways with Moss, who caught 50 touchdown passes in three-plus seasons – including an NFL record 23 in 2007 – but never really fit into the team’s low-profile, go-about-your-business-quietly style. Moss was shipped to the Vikings for a third-round draft pick, and the Patriots turned back to Branch. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Deion Branch was immediately excited when he found out he was being traded to the New England Patriots. Branch is at home again with the New England Patriots, the team that made him a second-round draft pick in 2002 and watched him grow into a Super Bowl MVP. And he’s at home again catching passes from Tom Brady – nine receptions in Sunday’s overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens, a total he hadn’t hit since helping New England win back-to-back Super Bowls in 2004-05. “I’m used to being in this situation with this team and that guy (Brady),Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys,” Branch said. “I don’t want to talk about the past, but I haven’t felt this way in four years. That’s kind of crazy. I truly feel like when we got the ball on that last drive,Carolina Panthers Jerseys, we knew, ‘Hey, we’re going to go down. We’re going to get some points out of this and win this game.’ That’s the feeling we had. That’s how the guys took the field. I truly just haven’t had this feeling in a long time.” But Branch wasn’t always so beloved in Foxborough. Branch found out about the deal Oct. 11 – the Monday before the Ravens game – gave his wife an abbreviated pep talk and headed for Boston. His wife, however, needed some convincing. Brady threw it Branch’s way on the Patriots’ first offensive play – unsuccessfully. When the two did hook up on the next drive Branch received a standing ovation from the crowd. A 2002 second-round draft pick from Louisville by the recently crowned, first-time Super Bowl champions, Branch played his first four seasons with the Patriots and helped them reach two more NFL title games. In them, Branch caught 21 passes for 276 yards, 13 first downs and a touchdown; he was the MVP of the 2005 game. No one who saw Branch in his first go-round with the Patriots was surprised to see him pick up where he left off. “It kind of hit her a little bit and I had to calm her down. I think it was more so with pulling the kids out of school,” Branch said after his first game back with his first team. “I’m like, ‘Baby, we’re going back home. … It will be all right.”‘ “Here’s a guy who hadn’t been in our system for a few years,” New England quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien said. “And he came in and got in here after a redeye flight out of Seattle and practiced right away when he got here on Tuesday. … The most unique thing about him is his ability to come in here and pick things up right away after being away for a while.” Branch doesn’t give the Patriots as much of a deep threat, but he might make up for it on every other kind of route; those are the ones Moss seemed to lose interest in at the end. Branch has never been known to complain about his role in the offense or confront coaches, like Moss was accused of on his way out of town. “I’ve always been impressed with Deion’s career. I didn’t see anything I didn’t expect,” said Patriots tight end Alge Crumpler, who wasn’t with the team during Branch’s previous tour. “He’s been here before, and he’s been in this situation – on a much bigger stage.” Branch added a 5-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter and started off the game-winning drive in overtime with a 23-yard catch that put New England on the brink of field goal range. On third-and-2, Branch caught a 10-yard pass that set up the clinching field goal. “That’s pretty exceptional for not playing here for four years,” Brady said. “It’s got to have been difficult.” Least of all Branch. “No, sir,Cleveland Browns Jerseys,” he said. “Tom and I have been away for four years and I honestly don’t feel like we missed a beat,” Branch said. “That just shows what type of guy he is, what type of player he is. Like I said, my job is just to get open.” Now the twists that sent the brilliant but mercurial Randy Moss to Minnesota and brought Branch back from Seattle seem to have worked in New England’s favor. Even in the postgame interview room, the differences couldn’t be more stark: After his first game, Branch appeared capless – that’s two fewer headcoverings than Moss’ layered look – called reporters “Sir” and avoided the emotional if heartfelt rambling that seemed to secure Moss’ departure. “It is not affecting us and it is not bothering us,” Manning said. “[But] being in New York, sometimes you got to learn how to lose a little bit better. It is never a good thing. You don’t want to accept losing but you know after a loss everything is going to be multiplied and you are going to ask a lot of questions and it can be hard at times.” More from NewYork.com ? Jacobs is in the second year of a four-year, $25 million deal that included $13 million guaranteed. He will make $3.65 million this season and is due $4.65 million and $4.9 million the next two seasons, respectively. Teammates have defended Jacobs and said the running back has not become a distraction. “We know Brandon,The New York Jets’ Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys,Washington Capitals,” quarterback Eli Manning said. “He kind of wears his mouth on his sleeve a little bit. He is very emotional and is going to say some things. He wants to win. He wants to help this team and that is just the way he is. You got to love him for it.” “The whole incident upsets me,” said Coughlin, who did not play Jacobs after the episode but said it was because the Giants, with a big deficit, were in passing mode. “I didn’t know anything about this until after the game. It really makes no sense, it is a senseless act. I don’t know what you are going to accomplish by that. Even if it was an accident. “I want to apologize one more time for accidentally tossing my helmet in the stands,” Jacobs said in a statement issued by the team. “It was something that happened because I was frustrated with the game, and I had no business tossing my helmet in the first place, and I am thankful that nobody was hurt. The Giants do not want to deal their backup running back, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Trading Jacobs would be, as one source described it,New NBA Shorts, highly unlikely. It was something that happened because I was frustrated with the game, and I had no business tossing my helmet in the first place, and I am thankful that nobody was hurt. Jacobs, who twice has used profanity while snapping at reporters this season, later apologized to the reporter. The six-year veteran has been embroiled in controversy this week, from his helmet-launching episode to the Bergen (N.J.) Record’s report that Jacobs would ask Reese for a trade. Jacobs said Sunday he had intended to throw the helmet toward the bench, but it got stuck on his leather glove and went sailing into the stands in the third quarter. New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for throwing his helmet into the stands during a 38-14 loss Sunday night to the Indianapolis Colts. “I talked to Jerry and Coach Coughlin yesterday,” he added. “Both of them asked to speak with me, I didn’t request a meeting with them. I have not demanded a trade and have no plans to demand a trade. The only demand I am making right now is of myself,Pittsburgh Steelers Jerseys, to be the best player I can be and to help this team win.” The league investigated the helmet-tossing incident, and the team announced the fine Tuesday. Jacobs had 12 carries for 44 yards in the season opener but saw just four carries against the Colts for 8 yards. “The frustration, you got to learn to deal with it. You got to have poise and have some patience and have some control. The only reason I emphatically say that is god forbid somebody could have gotten hurt.” More From NewYork.com Everything you need to know about the Giants’ loss to the Colts can Giants blog Jacobs apologized for the helmet incident again Tuesday and also said he met Monday with general manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin. Jacobs said he did not ask to be traded and he wants to help the Giants win. Coughlin said he was not happy that Jacobs failed to control his emotions on the sideline. Jacobs has been unhappy with his diminished role behind starter Ahmad Bradshaw. Coughlin and Bradshaw, who is Jacobs’ close friend, told reporters the running back did not ask for a trade on Monday. ”– Brandon Jacobs After the game, Jacobs repeatedly apologized for throwing his helmet but did get into a heated discussion with a reporter after being asked about not going back into the game. On his final carry, early in the third quarter, Jacobs was tackled for no gain after running sideways to his left instead of forward. Coughlin was upset with Jacobs for not running full-steam ahead. The Lions (0-2) have a young player of their own who is beginning to make that kind of impact. Jahvid Best, a first-round draft pick this year,Dallas Cowboys Jerseys, scored three times against the Eagles, including an electrifying 75-yard catch-and-run that gave Detroit a 17-7 lead in the second quarter. Vick looked like his old Pro Bowl self at times Sunday, smoothly flicking the ball down the field and nimbly avoiding pass rushers in Philadelphia’s 35-32 win over the Detroit Lions. He went 21 of 34 for 284 yards and two touchdowns in place of Kolb, who missed the game because of a concussion. Late in a Week 1 loss at Chicago, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson leaped for a catch and had his feet and a knee in the end zone before letting the football go after it hit the turf. It was ruled incomplete because he didn’t maintain possession. “It takes you back to high school, counting up your touchdowns,” McCoy said. “I felt like everybody was in the huddle and they had the motor, the determination to get into the end zone.” Detroit missed a big opportunity early in the fourth. Trailing 28-17 and facing third-and-1 from the Philadelphia 29, the Lions put rookie defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh in the backfield. Best got the ball but was stopped on back-to-back runs, and the Eagles took over on downs. Coach Jim Schwartz said he considered a long field goal. “I weighed that against our ability to be able to get a yard,Minnesota Vikings Jerseys, and that’s something we have to do,” he said. “We felt like we could exploit that – me on a linebacker,” Best said. “We felt pretty good about that. Shaun was throwing me some great balls and I was just making plays. But like I said, at the end of the day, we came up short, so it’s kind of a tough loss.” “We’ve got more plays for him than we did a year ago, so he’ll be on the field,” Reid said. “It isn’t going to be five or six plays this year.” DETROIT (AP) – Another energizing performance by Michael Vick left Philadelphia coach Andy Reid offering assurances about the quarterback’s playing time. No matter who the quarterback is, Philadelphia (1-1) is a threat to score. On Sunday, the Eagles were led by the LeSean and DeSean show. LeSean McCoy ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns, and DeSean Jackson caught four passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Trailing 35-17, Detroit scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes and also recovered an onside kick with 1:48 left, but the Lions turned the ball over on downs. After the throw to Jackson, Schwartz lividly protested the call and fired the challenge flag onto the field before the play was overturned. Still,Dallas Cowboys jerseys, the Eagles’ quarterback situation may not be set in stone. Although Kolb was picked to take over after Donovan McNabb was traded, Vick certainly looks like a viable option. He also played well in relief of Kolb in a season-opening loss to Green Bay. “I stepped on the field when I threw it. I guess my stride was a little too long on that,” Schwartz said. “The whole idea is to get it out where they can see.” Best gave the Detroit offense a boost on a day when the Lions had to start their own backup quarterback, Shaun Hill,Buffalo Bills Jerseys, because of an injury to Matthew Stafford. Reid said after the game it won’t be hard going back to Kolb, and Vick seemed on board with that. The Lions did enjoy some catharsis early in the game, when a pass to Jackson in the first quarter was ruled incomplete after a review. Jackson didn’t hold onto the football as he landed on the ground with cornerback Jonathan Wade, but the play was initially ruled a catch and the crowd howled in protest. Although Reid appears ready to go back to starter Kevin Kolb, opposing teams can expect to see plenty of Vick when facing the Eagles. “It’s not going to be difficult at all,” Vick said. Best caught nine passes for 154 yards, the most yards receiving by a rookie running back in a game since Herschel Walker had 170 in 1986. He’s also the first rookie to score five touchdowns in his first two games since Billy Sims in 1980. { Last Page } { Page 1 of 26 } { Next Page } |
