Granted, nobody on the Lions’ defensive line has played anything like an elite offensive line just yet this season, so it’s hard not to reserve judgment. But regardless of conditions, the Lions are tied with the Green Bay Packers for the NFL lead in sacks with 10.

But I slept on it. At least, to the extent that I was able to sleep. I may have also eaten a pint of ice cream.

And then there was Suh. Suh, in addition to leading the team in tackles (no easy feat for a DT), told me everything I needed to know when he sacked Mike Vick by putting a hand on his shoulder.

Another fun fact? Vanden Bosch had 1.5 sacks on Mike Vick. Of course, it could also be up to Bryant McKinnie, who has drawn the suddenly unenviable task of controlling red-eyed wild man Kyle Vanden Bosch, who has been perhaps the most fun player to watch on the Lions’ defense this year.

There has been a lot of talk about depth, rotating linemen, and fatigue this year when it comes to the Lions’ defense. Kyle Vanden Bosch, it seems, is exempt. It’s not that he ignores the talk. It’s more like he stares down anyone who suggests he might like a rest until they shut up.

In a minor roster move, wide receiver Patrick Turner was re-signed to the practice squad. Wideout Larry Taylor was released from the practice squad.

Reinstated wide receiver Santonio Holmes, having served his four-game drug suspension, rejoined the New York Jets Wednesday for the first of four practices this week in preparation for the Minnesota Vikings. Holmes was a few minutes late for practice,‘ Seattle mariners, but showed up in time to join his teammates for the early portion stretching period.

The team is whole — well, as whole as it’s going to be in 2010.

Holmes was suspended four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The Jets still acquired him from Pittsburgh in April.

Tennessee Titans’ running back Chris Johnson missed practice Thursday, but he and the team say it’s nothing close to major.

Meanwhile, rookie cornerback Alterraun Verner has played solidly in place of McCourty, intercepting a pass that set up a second-half touchdown in a 34-27 victory over Dallas this past Sunday. Wyatt said Fisher this week “indicated he wasn’t sure who would start when McCourty is ready to play.”

“Last year, he took one practice off with the sore ankle, but we just felt like this was a good opportunity with the extra day and the long week,” Fisher told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

McCourty said he didn’t know when he would cleared to practice on a full-contact basis.

Wyatt quoted Verner on the issue: “I haven’t put too much thought into it. I know Jason is working hard to get back and things were going well when he was in there. When he gets back it will be up to the coaches discretion, but I will be for whatever decision they make. I would love to see Jason back on the field because I know he would help the team out.”

Also on Thursday, Titans’ cornerback Jason McCourty participated on individual drills and on scout team, Wyatt reported. He has missed the last two games with a fractured forearm.

The Titans had Tuesday and Wednesday off and don’t play the Jacksonville Jaguars until Monday night.

“I’m still running and doing things,” Johnson said. “It’s not like I’m just out there watching practice. I was actually in the training room running on the treadmill and keeping my wind up and things like that.”

Wyatt reported that center Eugene Amato practice after missing time in the fourth quarter with a stinger and guard Leroy Harris returned after missing Sunday with an ankle injury.

Johnson,Cincinnati Reds, the NFL’s second-leading rusher, was listed on the team’s injury report with a thigh injury, but Titans’ Head Coach Jeff Fisher said the idea of the day off was for rest reasons.

Charlotte Motor Speedway plans to install the world’s largest HD video board in time for next year’s Coca-Cola 600.

Track owner Bruton Smith would not reveal how much he is paying for the screen.

The screen will be 200 feet wide,Dallas Mavericks, 80 feet tall and weigh more than 165,000 pounds. That size will make it larger than the $40 million screen at Cowboys Stadium in Texas, which is currently billed as the world’s largest.
