Sleep Better At Night With Less Snoring

In many cases, snoring is nothing to worry about, but in some cases, it can signal that something is quite wrong. There are various causes of snoring, and that is completely dependent upon the individual. Keep reading this piece to learn more about the causes and treatments for snoring.
Smoking can increase snoring because it can increase inflammation of the throat and airways. Smoking results in tissues at the rear of the throat being irritated, and swelling can ensue. If you have a swollen throat, this may be a factor of your snoring.
Ironically, if you take sleeping pills, you can end up snoring -- so if you don't take them, you reduce your risk of snoring. Sleeping pills relax your body, and that includes your muscles. The muscles that keep your nasal passage open will lose their ability to do that, leading to a narrower nasal passage. This will cause you to snore.
Those who are overweight are more likely to snore, particularly those people with extra fat around their neck. Excess fat around the neck can cause pressure on the airways and keep air from flowing freely. If you need to lose weight, try doing so now. It will not only make you feel and look better, it will help you sleep better also.
If you exercise, it could solve your snoring problem. Over time, physical exercise works to regulate your breathing; as a result, you become less likely to snore. Exercise is crucial in keeping your respiratory system working properly, but it is also a good way to relieve stress. Excess stress can wreak havoc with breathing patterns and make you more likely to snore.
Replacing a soft pillow with a firm one can help to eliminate your snoring. Pillows that are too soft relax the throat muscles, which narrows your air passages. You may begin to snore because air cannot pass through the passages freely. A pillow that is firmer can help with keeping your airway open.
Your medications may be to blame for your snoring. Some medications dehydrate your nasal membranes. If this happens, the membranes swell, making it harder to breathe, and you snore as a result. Some medicines have the opposite effect, loosening your throat muscles and causing them to collapse inward.
Be judicious in your choice of foods, beverages and medications just before bedtime if you frequently snore. Things such as muscle relaxants and alcohol can cause the throat muscles to relax. The muscles then collapse inward and block airways; this results in snoring. Stick to water if you need to drink something to rehydrate yourself before going to bed.
Many times just changing the position that you sleep in can eliminate snoring. Back sleeping is the cause of many snorer's problems. This is due to throat muscles relaxing and collapsing. However, if you switch to side sleeping, this will stop that from occurring, and a more restful sleep without snoring could follow.
More than just an annoyance, snoring can have a dramatic impact on your health. Each case of snoring can have a different cause, so the same treatment will not work for everyone. However, you can use the information from the above article to begin treating it.
