Posted at 05:22 on 3/5/2013

You should use digital techniques in order to shoot pictures that look like graphic pencil sketches, oil paintings, watercolors, and more. While there are several imaging software available, Adobe Photoshop is by far the most popular one to use. Some of these programs are more complicated than others, but the filter function is how you can convert your photos to art-like quality. Tinker around here and find filters you like.
Keep your technique simple to get the best pictures. You can take great pictures without changing your color or motion settings.
Serious photographers have dSRL cameras. The digital single-lens reflex is the best kind of camera for viewing your subjects as the photos are taken. For the most detailed pictures and largest image sensors, you want to invest in a full-frame DSLR.
Depth is an important feature to incorporate in your landscape images. Get a sense of scale by having a person or object placed in the foreground. A small aperture--no more than f/8 on a digital camera and no more than f/16 on a SLR--can show sharpness in both the background and foreground.
Often, photographers only take into account the background in a landscape photo and forget about the foreground. The foreground will be the most viewed area once the photo comes out. Ensure that the foreground of the photograph has a striking frame and considers depth in the shot.
The first step of any good photograph is finding a suitable subject. It doesn't matter how great of a photographer you are, having a good subject that you can take pictures of is what's best. Chose inanimate objects that inspire you, or search for a willing participant that can act as your muse.
When you go travelling, look around for new ideas on all the different things you can shoot. Peruse the racks holding postcards; this will give you an immediate insight as to what the main features of a city are. Postcards generally have landscape pictures of different attractions that you may find to be interesting.
Most of the time the subject is looking straight into the camera. For a unique look to your photos, have the subject look away from the camera as though they are interested in something out of view. You could also have them focus on an item that is within the frame of the picture.
Contrarily to popular belief, wearing white to have a picture taken is not good. A majority of cameras use autofocus, which tries to interpret all the different shades within the pictures. As a result, white clothing tends to not focus as well.
Look for opportunities to frame creative shots. You can utilize the environment around your subject to frame your snapshot in a unique and mood-evoking manner. There are times when you can use the natural surroundings to create a clever and interesting frame for your shots. You can use this as a way to practice photograph composition.
Now, you must start taking some practice shots. The professionalism of your pictures will improve in no time at all.
