U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday tapped a former Bush administration official as his cybersecurity czar. Howard Schmidt, an adviser at former President George W. Bush's White House, was the final choice for the post, which has been vacant for months, the White House said on its website. In the new role, he will "have regular access to the president and serve as a key member of his national security staff. He will also work closely with his economic team to ensure that our cybersecurity efforts keep the nation secure and prosperous," according to a letter posted on the website. Schmidt will also oversee a White House cybersecurity office and coordinate efforts to enhance cybersecurity across government agencies. The appointment came as Obama attached great importance to cybersecurity. Since the president announced that protecting the nation's digital network would be a "national security priority" in May, the Pentagon launched a major new cyber command and the Department of Homeland Security has been improving protection of civilian networks. cheap ugg classic tall boots on sale Tiffany & co cheap silver earrings Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 9 of 568 } { Next Page } |
